The problem is I can't even get "tip" to talk direct to the modem. MAKEDEV didn't make tty00 or cua0, just ttya and ttyb so I've tried several things. 1) Make my own tty00 using the "mknod tty00 c 12 0" command then setting the owner and group to "uucp" and "dialer" and setting "ugo+rw" permissions. Add a "tip" entry to use tty00 as a "9600" baud hardwired serial device. Use a straight through 25 way cable. /etc/remote contains the entry "a:/dev/tty00:br#9600:", there are no lock files in /var/spool/lock and /etc/ttys has the getty switched off. When I try "tip a" with the above I get a "link down" message and the modem briefly lights DTR. 2) I try making a cua0 device by adding 128 to the minor device number a la SunOS 4.x. This is obviously a no brainer as tip says "/dev/cua0: Device not configured". 3) Tried playing with the eeprom settings for ttya: setenv ttya-ignore-cd false setenv ttya-rts-dtr-off false Still no joy. This is *REALLY* embarrassing as I've been a Systems Admin for 10 years and can't figure this out!!! Please, please, pretty please... can anyone help ? -- Doug Scoular "The big print giveth and the Systems Manager small print taketh away" E-mail: doug@arch.su.EDU.AU Tel: +61 2 351 4898 WWW: http://www.arch.su.EDU.AU/~doug Fax: +61 2 351 3031 Postal: Key Centre of Design Computing Univ. of Sydney, Rm292, Wilkinson Blding, 148 City Road Sydney NSW 2006, Australia
