It is better to have several smaller drives than one large drive for usenet news server. Each news message is a seperate file of less than 2k average (unless you are talking about alt.binaries.* which average about 100k). Writing/reading all these files from a single drive will cause those heads to be constantly skipping across the platters. Save the wear and tear, buy 4 2 gig drives, and you can keep about 3 days of alt.binaries and a week of everything else ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jim Sloan jsloan@livenet.net Vice President LiveNet, Inc. 413 Davis St. Suite 106 Full Service Internet Provider Virginia Beach VA 23462 Dialup and dedicated connections Ph: 804-499-9328 Virtual Web, Email, and FTP hosting http://www.livenet.net info@livenet.net webmaster@livenet.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------
