Calleson) Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc Subject: best Operating System for WEB, email, Newsfeed, etc. Date: 3 May 1996 19:21:24 GMT Organization: National Center for State Courts Lines: 20 Message-ID: <4mdmbk$u22@news.uwsuper.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: poseidon.ncsc.dni.us Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=US-ASCII X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.7 I'm currently running SCO Open Server >(From Compaq) Enterprise System on a Compaq >Proliant 2000. The system is serving as out WEB site (www.ncsc.dni.us) and smart email host using "mmdf". My goal is to upgrade this system with current, top of the line, Internet software. Along with a more main stream Mailer, I would like to be able to setup a "Listserve". Right now, I'm having to maintain all this manually. I'm also interested in POP3 capabilities, a News Feed, and a current Web Server such as Apache or Netscape. The choices I'm considering are: replacing the current operating system with either Windows NT or BSDI or sticking with SCO and upgrading the Internet related software. I'm concerned about SCO's lack of market presence regarding the Internet. Everyone seems to be using SUN, BSDI, NT or Linux. Your unbiased opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert Calleson
