For a start, please try installing a more recent Wine version, as things
have changed a *lot* since November.

Try ftp://tsx11.mit.edu/pub/linux/ALPHA/Wine/development/Wine-960421.tar.gz
(avoid the 960428 release - it won't compile on FBSD-2.1 without patching).

: 1. What is wrong ?
: - wine notepad : I cannot load the filechooser. The hourglass appears,

: - wine progman : The window appears, but nothing else.

Notepad and progman should work fairly well with an up-to-date release
I think.

: - wine excel : error i386_set_ldt: Invalid argument
: The kernel is compiled with the option USER_LDT.

: 2. Is it possible ?
: - running word 6.0 and excel 5.0

Excel/WORD are beginning to run, but won't be suitable for serious use
for a long while yet.

: 3. Is this the right way:
: I in-tar-ed the whole tree of a windows 3.11 installation in the
: wine-dos-root

This should work, though there will be a lot of stuff in there that isn't
usefull to wine. There are lots of other ways of doing it as well.

BTW, a better place to ask these questions is the newsgroup:
