The 2.2 series is currently experimental, but more feature rich, and
higher performance than the 2.1 series.  The 2.1 series is more stable
and the only mods to 2.1 are for broken features or serious bugs.  2.1.1
is more of what 2.1 is about, while 2.2 SNAP/-current is more forward
looking, and less reliable.  For example, the fork performance of
2.2 is approx 2-3x the speed of 2.1.  If you need stable code, 2.1 is
better.  Soon (in about 3-6mos), 2.2 will be the current, STABLE code.

So, if you move from 2.2 SNAP to 2.1.1, you are making a choice to go to
stable release quality code.
