You know, I am a citizen of Soviet Union (literally - because I haven't yet exchanged my passport for the Russian one). I'm telling you that you probably shouldn't be ashamed to be an American, because you haven't seen how ridiculous things used to be/in some ways still are over there (so, for instance, I fear a little bit that this post might affect me somehow). But I'm shocked and amazed at what Americans are trying to do. I think some people just need to read a little more history. It all starts from good intentions...
