I haven't got Henry's posting here yet, but I'll just note that UNIX has
been running on long word length machines like Crays for many years.

Why are there suddenly a bunch of ads? Because there's suddenly market
demand for these sorts of systems at the low end. There wasn't before.

Where did this demand come from? I'd say, the availability of cheap
(relatively) and reliable 9GB SCSI drives, and the joint Oracle and
Digital Equipment anouncement of their high-peformance large-address
space database servers.
