I assume from the above description that you're talking about 10Mbit twisted-pair Ethernet (10BaseT) and therefore a 3Com 3C509? Remember that BSD/OS doesn't use the card's saved configuration, regard- less of what anybody else might tell you. That means that until the card is ifconfig'd for the correct link type you won't get a 10BaseT link indication on either the hub or the card. Do an "ifconfig ef0" (or ef1 if you have multiple cards, etc.) and see what it says - for 10BaseT you should have the "LINK1" flag set, like this: ef0: flags=a863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,LINK1,MULTICAST> ^^^^^ If you have link1 set correctly, look at the link light on the 3C509 (it's sort-of hidden by the top mounting screw of the bracket on the combo cards, I think it's more obvious on the TP-only versions) and see if it's on. If that light is on but the hub isn't, or neither is on, then I'd suggest that you look at the TP cable between the BSDI box and the hub, swapping it if necessary.
