Downloaded some bsdi update files to create a new boot disk that is supposed to recognise an IDE cdrom, though it seems to only mention mitsumi drives, and mine is a Hitachi if that makes any difference. Boot disk 2 tries to mount mcd0, but can't find it at all. Any clues anyone? I can be found at jabell@easttorrens.sa.gov.au Thanks! John
