Actually, as of 2.1.0-RELEASE (I haven't checked anything more recent), hostid is always zero. Since I use hostid in some test code I write, I have a line in my rc.local file to stick my IP address into 'kern.hostid'. I will leave it to others to debate whether this should be default behaviour in the way that Terry seems to think that it is. Be well. Lowell
