If you fire up your favorite web browser and peek at: http://www.uvi.edu/ You will be using a DNS CNAME record pointing to an address on a virtual interface on FreeBSD v2.1.0-RELEASE. We just moved our web server to new hardware and new OS (FreeBSD v1.1.5.1 to v2.1) and the virtual interface made this a painless transistion, since I could build the new machine offline and replace the old machine with only a few minutes downtime (almost none). | John Lucas jlucas@uvi.edu | | Academic Computing NIC Handle: JL423 | | University of the Virgin Islands (809) 693-1216 | | St. Thomas, VI 00802 http://www.uvi.edu/jlucas.html |
