The man-page gives an example of tar'ing a file to diskette however I need to backup a whole directory structure which contains more data than can fit onto a single diskette. I read through the man-pages for other options but I couldn't get it working. When I wanted to list the contents of the volume, it would always reject the second diskette claiming that it was out of sequence. Has anybody tried this before? I don't have a tape drive but I do have tonnes of diskettes and a lot of patience. Does the disk need to be formatted in any special way or does tar just write raw data (whatever that means) to the device? Thanks for your time.
