Pls supply advice for a unix emulator os install on the following
hardware base;

Gateway P5-133 w/aladdin(triton) mb & ami bios w/16MB ram.
1st mb PCI EIDE controller with 2 caviar 1G drives.
 1st drive partitioning = OS2 boot mgr
  all fat drives        = Primary dos6.22 wfw3.11 528MB partition
                        = Windows 95 228MB logical drive
                        = open       228MB logical drive
 2nd drive partitioning = work 528MB logical drive
  all fat drives = OS2 warp 228MB logical drive
                        = open       228MB logical drive
2nd mb PCI EIDE controller with 1 (as master) ATAPI (sanyo 4x-3) cdrom.
Matrox Millenium PCI 2MB video controller.
Floppy interfaced HP travan tape drive.

The LINUX vs freeBSD fora seem to be HINTING as follows;
 I could choose red hats linux 3.0.3 for my matrox card.
 I could choose any linux for my cdrom.
 I would rather install from a cdrom distribution media vs download.
 FreeBSD may have a cleaner install & unix implementation than LINUX.
 I don't know which flavor would support my tape drive, if any.

I am a retired IBM mainframe systems pgmr and have very little unix
knowledge (ie; only some risc6000, dec, and channel extender experience).
My intent is to learn all I can about each of the micro computers base
operating systems. I want to install either LINUX or freeBSD and a
Novell supervisor in the two open 228MB drives above.

Since much of the news group talk seems so subjective & biased, I ask
the unix emulator big guns to point me in the correct direction. I don't
want to get the wrong unix flavor. (ie; I'm retired, that means poor!)

Thankyou very much in advance.... Larry....
