Well I actually have it running now, but not sure why.  I rebuilt the 
kernel and took out all the GENERIC stuff, basically just tunned it to
my specific configuration and away it went (strange).

Also I agree with you on the BSD/OS implementation of the IPC functions
through files in /tmp.  I have even verified that this is in fact the
case.  I don't have a mem-fs setup, but that will be my next project
as I expect it will have quite an impact.
