Message-ID: <1992Oct23.085002.11974@tfs.com> Organization: TRW Financial Systems Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1992 08:50:02 GMT Lines: 66 I have placed one of my 386bsd machines outside of our gateway to make it generally available to the internet's 386bsd community. It runs reliably nad seems to be preperly set up. It is connected directly to UCB by a T1 and so should have good connectivity. My aim is to make this machine a 'reference machine' for 386bsd. If you have a package that you have ported to 386bsd and would like to have it installed on the reference machine 'just so' then feel free to log in as 'guest' and set yourself up. It is also available as a compile engine to those who do not have enough free space or cpu to compile their own kernels etc. in each case, log in as 'guest' and leave me mail so I can add you to the passwd file. people wanting to install packages that feel that they will need root permissions to do so should let me know by sending mail to 'julian' on that machine, and they will be set up to allow this. People who wish to 'try 386bsd on for size' are invited to log on and look around. I believe that this machine is vulnerable as is any unix machine available on the internet. There should not be any challenge to smashing this machine so please refrain from doing so: As I said, root is available for anyone that asks for it, and you are asked to not use it unless needed, just to stop too many accidentally deleted directories etc. The machine is: ref.tfs.com (140.145.254.251) it is a 50MHz EISA 486 with a 1.3MB drive attached via a Bustek 742a SCSI2 adapter. It has 16MB of ram. Part of the disk (about 200MB is taken up by mach2.6 and is unavailable to 386bsd. some of the packages I am hoping people can set up in the reference system include: X11 gcc2.2.2 (g++?) news The sources have been patched up to patch 59 but one of them seems to have introduced a problem. I will make a down-rev kernel tree avaialable as well, and will persue the 'bad patch' as soon as possible I have not compiled all the sorces available on this machine, but have done all the system utilities etc (/sbin /usr/sbin /bin /usr/bin) This machine has a 1.3MB DAT drive and I will attempt to make backups of it every few days. shar files for my scsi, boot, and fdisk releases are available in my home directory on this machine also. julian +----------------------------------+ ______ _ __ | __--_|\ Julian Elischer | \ U \/ / On assignment | / \ julian@tfs.com +------>x USA \ in a very strange | ( OZ ) 2118 Milvia st.
