You can find a copy of gas.2.6.gz in the ftp.freebsd.org incoming directory. I had compiled it by adding another entry in the gas subdirectory configure script. Something like adding the line i386-*-freebsd*) fmt=aout em=386bsd ;; (If I remember correctly) Seems to work fine... I havent bothered with the linker. The other libs seemed to build ok by configuring them separately. I havent tested them very hard though...
