Two possible explanations:

1. Network connectivity is still hosed for you somehow (due to
misconfiguration or some other lossage) and it's hanging up as it tries
to transfer the bits.  I actually doubt this is it, hoever.

2. Your system is simply crashing during the install while trying to
write to your new FreeBSD partition.  You need to tell us a little more
about your configuration now, as well as the area of your HD you're
trying to install it on.  Are you sharing the system between multiple
OSes or installing dedicated?
