Well, all the ``files'' up to /stand/ls aren't files, but only hard
links for a single file that will just follow then.  The file is
rather large (perhaps half a megabyte or so), and that's where the
real work for your network card is starting.  (Everything before was
just kidding, only a few bytes in either direction.)

If nothing happens then, something in your network setup seems to be
broken (or perhaps the network driver -- what card are you using?).
