Also take a look at the psl package at http://www.inka.de/sites/bigred/sw/ It batches articles (like suck?). It's written in Perl and I modified it to save the articles in the individual newsgroup directories while downloading the articles. You don't need to run any news server like INN or Cnews; you need only a newsreader that can read from the local spool.
