Lines: 67 Message-ID: <4oukgt$11a@jaxnet.jaxnet.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: jax.jaxnet.com X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] I am having a problem with my sendmail configuration, under light load everything works fine, but when the mail server is overloaded and the sending entity goes to the second or third MX preference... the mail gets bounced due to a configuration error that indicates the the "mail loops back to me, MX problem?" Here is the MX records for my mail server: mailhub IN MX 10 mailhub.southeast.net. IN MX 50 www1.southeast.net. IN MX 100 jaxnet.southeast.net. IN MX 150 offsite.host.com. There is nothing special about the sendmail.cf on hosts www1 or jaxnet they are pretty much stock BSDI 2.1 delivered sendmail.cf files. If I telnet to port 25 of either www1 or jaxnet and post an email by hand, they get deliverd without errors to mailhub. I.E: <<<<<<BEGIN MANUAL SMTP TEST SESSION>>>>> telnet www1 25 Trying 204.215.9.20... Connected to www1.southeast.net. Escape character is '^]'. 220 www1.southeast.net ESMTP Sendmail ........ helo jax.southeast.net 250 www1.southeast.net Hello krenaut@jax.southeast.net [204.183.221.4], pleased to meet you mail from:<krenaut@southeast.net> 250 <krenaut@southeast.net>... Sender OK rcpt to:<test1#southeast.net> 250 Recipient OK data 354 Enter mail, end with "." on a line by itself test data . 250 IAA20737 Message accepted for delivery quit 221 www1.southeast.net closing connection Connection closed by foreign host. <<<<<END MANUAL SMTP TEST SESSION>>>>> The above E-Mail is delivered/relayed to mailhub.southeast.net with no errors! But, when my mailhub machine is overloaded and refuses SMTP connections and the sending agent has to try to send the email to one of the lower priority MX hosts, sometimes (not always) I get the mail config error: "mail loops back to me, MX problem?" and the E-Mail bounces. This only happens under extremely heavy load, like when I do mass mailings... it seems to only happen when more than one of the lower priority MX hosts is involved, but I'm not sure about that. I get the error messages from both of the lower priority MX hosts (www1 and jaxnet). What am I doing wrong? This stuff used to work under BSDI 1.1. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Renaut Voice: 904-350-1969 Southeast Network Services Data: 904-292-4567 P.O.
