This is how rumors come into the world.

The 3C509 is an ethernet card, and the original asker asked about
a token ring card. To the best of my knowledge, there is no DEC
token ring card on the supported hardware list.

I know of one small defiency in the 3C59x support (that is NOT the 3C5x9!)
A workaround is in the works. People who can't wait for that should
contact me privately.

Can you describe what you did to get hang at boot, or 100% packet loss?
I have roughly 35 3C509's in service and they work without a hitch,
under heavy load.
