From a Windows NT client, for instance, I can telnet to the FreeBSD box by using its IP address (10.0.0.1), but not its domain name (for argument sake, xyz.com). It's running on a 486DX2/66 VLB system with a 3Com 3C509-Combo ISA adapter, though I think this is irrelevant. When I login as root (I know it's bad form) and enter 'nslookup', it returns the following error: *** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.1: Server failed *** Default servers are not available When I try to telnet to the domain by entering, 'telnet xyz.com', it returns the following error: xyz.com: Host name lookup failure At someone's prompting, I tried going to the /var/yp directory and entering 'make'. This resulted in the following error: make: Cannot open ../Makefile *** Error code 2 If I try telnetting to the server using the IP address by entering 'telnet 10.0.0.1', I get the usual login prompt. My FreeBSD server is being setup to have Windows 3.x, NT and 95, and Macintosh clients. Thanks in advance for any help. Please send responses to: robert@iloc.com -Robert 8-)
