I've been having a similar problem .. the message my local sendmail is
returning is this:

553 conundrum.com config error: mail loops back to myself
554 <mattp@conundrum.com>... Local configuration error
I tried adding Fw/etc/sendmail.cw to my sendmail.cf file, then creating a
sendmail.cw file that looks like this:

; domains to receive mail for
;
conundrum.com
--
That doesn't work either .. same error. Should the file look like this
instead: ?
--
; domains to receive mail for
;
conundrum.com. 86400 MX 0 conundrum.com.
conundrum.com. 86400 MX 10 mail.io.org.

Someone suggested that with slightly different instructions (which didn't work
either).
Any help is appreciated..
