On the one hand you cry: 'hey the don't give me all the details', and the other hand you simply ignore this fact on other things. You cannot do this. You cannot act like a candle in the wind, moving in a direction just as it satisfies your needs. I know that the Diamond behaviour is pretty ugly for UNIX PD people. But I think it's even worse that these UNIX PD guys can only think in there own terms and ignore (and forget) motivations and reasons of other peoples. He that's what fascism is all about ! I truely do believe that we all have to accept Diamonds acting. We can tell them that we do think that's it's in our oppinion not ok. But they way people accuse Diamond on the net is definitively NOT ok. And I really feel that they way people like you are acting on the net regarding this topic is even more discusting. >I do think that the net is doing a favor to Diamond by attempting >to solve Diamond's stupid policy. Who do you think you are ? God ? The only one who knows the truth ? Why can't you simply accept it ? Why do you think you are doing them a favour ? They have choosen this policy for a good reason (maybe a Diamond representative could finally tell me the whole story, but till them we all just can speculate), why do you think they want to change it ? For perhaps 100 more sold cards and 1000 more problems ? >I simply took my Stealth >back and got myself a couple of cards that I could program >without a lot of hazzles from the vendors. Well I still keep my DS24X and really love it ... It's greate for DOS games. >Roell, tnks for your code! A few of us are capable of >either getting the algorithm or writing the code. No, >I am not going to do it because I am not interested in >helping Diamond. Well if somebody has to patch server/dix to get his server/ddx/* layer to work, them I have seriousely doubts. >And for the matter of hackers burning up their equipment >thats up to them after all they purchase it. You make it yourself to easy. Let's say you finally come up with a working S3 server (which passes x11perf, xbench & the XTEST suite) that supports the Diamond Stealth. Then you will put in there a copyright notice (derived from the X11R5 tape) that say something like that: AMANCIO DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES WITH REGARD TO THIS SOFTWARE, INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS, IN NO EVENT SHALL AMANCIO BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER RESULTING FROM LOSS OF USE, DATA OR PROFITS, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER TORTIOUS ACTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SOFTWARE. That keeps you free from any liabilities. But what if one of your users kills his card by using your code ? What will he do ? He will go to the shop where he bought the Stealth and return it in exchange for a new one. This would cost Diamond's money. Did you ever think of that ? >Lastly, I am not benefiting from my work in any financial way, >and I am not going follow this thread any more, I am go >to keep hacking on my S3 cards. Ah, if somebody don't share my oppinion, I'm just not listen to him anyway. Is that what you are telling us here ? If that's true I can only say: 'poor personality'. - Thomas -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Das Reh springt hoch, e-mail: roell@sgcs.com das Reh springt weit, #include <sys/pizza.h> was soll es tun, es hat ja Zeit ...
