The TravelMate 5100 actually has the Cirrus CL-GD7543 chipset. I finally noticed this while rebooting repeatedly to see the startup messages from the video BIOS. It turns out that this chipset is not supported in XFree86 3.1.2, but is supported in the 3.1.2E beta test, which installs easily enough, and seems to work fine. If you want to use 3.1.2E, note that while the RELNOTES file says there is support for CL-GD7543, neither SuperProbe nor xf86config are aware of it. Choose some other CL-GD6xxx chipset from the card database, and then edit /etc/XF86Config, adding the line "Chipset clgd7543" to the "Device" section after xf86config has finished. -- Carl Harris Systems Engineer CNS Research and Planning, Virginia Tech ceharris@vt.edu
