In fact, using the zp0 driver, you have to ifconfig the interface down and back up before the link stuff seems to work properly. I'm using the 10Base2 connector, so I'm using link1. In any case, with the nep0 driver, I can config the card to the point where the activity light starts flashing, so I reckon it's seeing the network.
