Date: Fri, 07 Jun 1996 12:42:29 -0500 Organization: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Lines: 57 Message-ID: <ahall-0706961242290001@mm-mac19.mse.uiuc.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: mm-mac19.mse.uiuc.edu X-Newsreader: Yet Another NewsWatcher 2.2.0b4 Hello again everyone, This is a slightly different message than my last. I've successfully created a root partition on a Zip Drive removable media disk, and have been playing with the booter a bit. I have installed the following tarballs onto the drive: netbsd11 base11 etc11 man11 I still have yet to do the text11 that I think I'll want later. I have a small problem though. Booter1.8 recognizes id5 as the zip, then I select id5, and start the boot up. It goes through perfectly until the requester for the bootup pops up. I then say Boot (default button), and then it ejects my Zip drive. I pop it in right away, but the booter dies before I can get the zip back in for it to read. I suspect that it dies on a scsi read or something right after the disk ejects. Is there code in the booter which asks the Mac to eject all removable media like floppies and zips etc.? I don't think it's the mac ejecting it, but I can't be sure. Any suggestions/comments? They're all welcome. BTW, my system is not a normal system and is as follows: Performa636CD 250 Meg internal IDE drive (only 5 megs free right now... but I can fix that) External SCSI Zip removable media drive 20 Meg RAM Valkyre?? Video Card SCSI Sony Internal CDRom 68LC040 Motorola Processor with system 7.5.3 I'm going to read a bit more on the ADB stuff, (I think I'll need ADB from the web page.. sorry forgot the fellow working on that one). I'd like to try to boot NetBSD and let everyone know how far I got, but I don't even get far enough to see any grey boxes :) I've also tried Booter1.9 (the pre-release), but it hangs my machine right away. Thanks again for all comments and suggestions! I'll try to keep an eye on this newsgroup often for your reply. Please e-mail me if you want to be sure I get your comments. -Allen Hall -- Polymer Group Graduate Research Assistant Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
