Hi,

I just downloaded XFree86 3.12D full distribution and the update to 3.12E tar
files, unpacked them and did a symlink from /usr/X11R6 to the distributions.
These are precompiled binaries for FreeBSD 2.1 taken from ftp.xfree86.org. I
ran the Xf86config to conform to my machine with PCI Diamond Stealth 64 w/2mb
(Trio64 chipset), Logitech Mouse, and Acer 15" monitor. After configuration,
I ran startx and this is what I found:

...
(--) S3: Using 8 planes of 1216x613 at (0,1025) aligned 8 as font cache
PEXExtensionInit: Couldn't open default PEX font file Roman_M
Fatal Server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
X connection to :0.0 broken (excplicit kill or erver shutdown).

Upon inspection of the X11R6.1 source code, I noticed that PEX fonts
extensions Roman_M is hardcoded and I assumed it's always the default if
other fonts are not specified in some .Xresources config file. I checked the
fonts directory:

bash# pwd
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts
bash# ls
100dpi Speedo Type1 cyrillic misc

No luck.

I'm wondering if there's another problem that I overlooked? Can anyone help
me suggest what I should do next to fix this? My last resort is to obtain
the Xfree86 and X11R6.1 source, and recompile them myself, but that's really
very time consuming.

Thanks in advance!
