I use both Linux and FreeBSD. One thing I like about
Linux is availability of RPMs. They are a little better
than the current FreeBSD package system.

Due to an improper shut down last Saturday a file was
corrupted on my FreeBSD system that effected the system's
networking. I was getting ping times greater than 900ms
to a machine sitting right next to mine.

I looked almost everywhere to see what the problem was
checked all the files I could think of, had a friend who
is pretty good with FreeBSD help me but we couldn't locate
the problem. Finally I gave up and installed FreeBSD on
another HD and copied the user and configuration files
over.

Now if the system was installed using RPMs I could have
just asked rpm to verify all system files.

Is there a reason why we shouldn't have RPM as our main
software packaging system ?

Thanks.
