Could I add a (perhaps) related problem to this discussion?

I, too, have a software configurable NE2000 compatible that I just installed. I
also have checked and double checked the port and IRQ settings. But if the board
is enabled in the kernel at boot time, the boot process hangs and never recovers.
Disable the board, and the boot proceeds otherwise normally. Windoze 95 can use
it just fine.

For the sake of discussion, I am using the same kernel in two other
FreeBSD/Windoze 95 boxes with different clone boards. These boards can be
*either* software or jumper configurable. I am using them in jumper configurable
mode, and (sorry to say) I haven't tried them in software config mode. Maybe I
should try that, but I don't know what it would prove either way.

I would also appreciate any hints.

Thanks,
Phil
