Subject: exiting X11 won't let go of stdout

I have successfully installed BSD (YEAH!!) on my system.
However, when I exit X11 (Xfree86) I do not get the stdout
as usual. I can type and issue a halt, etc. but I don't get
any feedback (halt does produce the hit any key to reboot.)

Any ideas? BTW I have 8megs of RAM, and compilation under X
is SLOW, would a larger swap space help, or do i fork out
$400+ for the RAM?

Thanks..
