Well, I hate to offer commercial solutions to problems ya got into for 
free, but after having a number of problems with the BSD boot manager, I 
shelled for a program called "System Commander."  It's around $70-80, and it 
works PAINLESSLY.  I highly recommend you getting that package.  It does 
serious voodoo.
