I'm using XEmacs 19.13, FreeBSD-2.1.0-RELEASE, and ispell 3.1.18, all
installed as packages from the standard distributions.

When I run ispell from XEmacs, I get an error complaining that ispell
did not didn't produce a version number. It then sits and does
nothing. Running ispell again is successful, but an ispell process
continues to run in the background, and XEmacs squeals about that
when I exit.

Running ispell from the command line produces a perfectly reasonable
version identification line.

Has anybody else had this problem, and if so, how does one solve it?
The problem is not a disaster, but it is rather annoying.

Any assistance would be apprecated.

Mark
