But doesn't necessarily allow other sites to SEND them mail. When you
stray away from RFCs, you take chances.

It is, but the "P" before the name isn't, and the two accounts are a
kludge to allow that for those of us cantankerous enough to refuse to
use terminal servers and try to get off cheap with Digiboards. <g>

BTW, you're by no means required to do things that way in BSD. It's
sort of a default, but only if you use "config_dialin" to create your
PPP accounts. You could just as easily set things up so folks run PPP
from their shell prompt. Or from a menu.

Of course, it makes it a tiny bit harder to write scripts; but if you
write the scripts and distribute them, that's no big deal.

There are a couple of programs (I've only directly experienced one, but
I've heard others exist) that can recognize a "login: Password:"
sequence, but don't actually have scripting. With those programs,
capital "P" is the only way to go.

I was glad to find out BSDI had a tool to do the "P" easily; it was the
way I'd intended to set things up anyway.
