I've been trying to install FreeBSD for almost a week and I want to
see this thing WORK!

I can not (yet) use the CDROM drive. The original rom is a
NEC CDR-260 It should be at IRQ 14 or 15
and use 1f0s (for slave on primary) or 170s for secondary.

#1 what cdrom do I choose? mitsumi? sony? panasonic????

I am going to put a mitsumi 4x in and see if that one works
It's a FX 400 D/E. Does anyone know if this guy will work?

Let me quickly run through the hardware :
The computer is a gateway P-60 (i know gateway's suck)
3 COM 3C509B NIC defaults are 300h IRQ 10 and prom disabled
I can't configure this guy either.

the HD is a WD 540mb. this configures properly, thank god something
does.

The video card is a STB 5430 PCI card w/ 1 mb mem.

Can anyone out there help me configure this darn thing.
I've installed from disks 3 times and I still can't get this thing to
work.
I want to dedicate the machine to FreeBSD so I don't have to worry
about a DOS install.

My first install was successful but I changed some config files and
decided to reinstall and see if the rom would work.
The second install hung when it asked for a program disk I didn't have
(my fault)
The third installed everything but hung on the reboot and kept trying
to access the HD. I didn't even get as far as getting the error mess.
The FreeBSD book discribes might happen with the 3COM card.

Please HELP....I'm going nuts.

Thanks in Advance,
Kenny
