It's not that much of work, you can try to search through FreeBSD's
GNATS database if you want, there's a submission for getting it to
work.  I don't remember exactly, but it was at most a couple of 100
lines of code.

We didn't accept that code yet, but are likely to merge it into the
regular getty as an option some day.

(The FreeBSD GNATS database can be queried via http://www.freebsd.org/,
we don't make a secret out of it.)
