: It depends on what you define as 'good'.

: Do you mean lightning performance, or ease of installation, or responsive
: tech support, cross-OS compatibility, or excellent drivers?

	Step by step:

	lightning performance, or

Reasonable performance. With 2 or 4 Mb of DRAM S3 868
is very nice, VRAM is even better. That's my
personal opinion, I didn't do any reasonable benchmarking.

	ease of installation, or

Yes, definitely. You take PCI board and plug it in, then
it plain works, that's all I want from it.

	responsive tech support,

Never used any, so I don't know. :)

	cross-OS compatibility,

Yes. S3 868 is supported everywhere.

	or excellent drivers?

Probably yes, too. Never seen any driver problems with
it -- can't say this about ATI Mach, Trident, Cirrus Logic
		cards.

: I usually recommend the #9 cards in various flavors, but mostly because
: I like ease of installation, cross-OS compatibility, and price.

I think that S3 868 is a bit cheaper (at least here) and
the performance difference isn't too big. But YMMV, of course.
BTW do you have any numbers to compare the two?

: I am willing to give up a 5-10% difference in performance in favor of
: the above factors.
