It's as if there was > nothing specified in the ttys file. Here's some more information: The kernal that I was running BEFORE the rebuild was the patched kernal from the X distribution. And I have a correct /dev/vga. Also, I can't log in using a terminal connected to /dev/com1, either, and this has always worked in the past.
