You don't need ghostscript in this case, but apsfilter might still
come handy, since it converts any kind of file into some nice-looking
PostScript form.

You only need ghostscript if your printer doesn't understand PS
directly.  The benefit of ghostscript is that almost all host CPUs
these days seem to be more powerful than the embedded controllers in a
printer, so it's quite possible that running ghostscript on an
i586/100 may result in a faster turn-around time.
