Linux already has PEX (although it's a bit underfeatured). The only two things it lacks are PEX applications, and support for accelerators. However, PEXlib was *supposed* to be used on 3D hardware systems. My own problem is my lack of experience with that library and lack of any good documentation (man pages simply don't quite cut it).
