I also had this problem (under 2.1.0-R) with PCVT configured on the console.. I solved it by turning off that tty. Note that /dev/ttyv3 is a console screen under PCVT, and not a serial port.. my monochrome display card reports having 8 screens, so I tried to put a PCVT screen on each one..
