FreeBSD doesn't strictly support EIDE, but it supports IDE to the
level the hardware permits.  As i've been posting here recently, that
is 127.5 GB.  If the disk must be shared with the BIOS (with it's
deeper limitations), this number drops to e.g. 31.5 GB.

However, your /kernel file must be loaded by the BIOS at boot time,
thus it must reside below the ficticous (from your BIOS' point of
view) cylinder 1024.  This is most often the 504 MB limit.  Don't
extend FreeBSD's root partition beyond this point.
