I wrote an 18k document on getting started (*after* installation)
for people new to both FreeBSD and Unix. It covers logging in and
out, getting around, getting help, creating new users, simple vi
editing, etc. The freebsd-doc project may do something with it,
but meanwhile I'll be glad to e-mail a copy to anyone, or it's
available at http://andrsn.stanford.edu/data/FreeBSD/

What you need to configure depends on what you want to do. The
FreeBSD handbook has sections covering many topics, e.g., printing,
ppp & slip, and so forth. Configuring something like a web server
is covered by documentation that comes with the program.
