Message-ID: <kientzleDtxG58.3ss@netcom.com> Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 261-4700 guest) Distribution: na Date: Tue, 2 Jul 1996 17:48:44 GMT Lines: 19 Sender: kientzle@netcom16.netcom.com My old 14.4 modem gave up the ghost recently, so now I'm shopping for a new one. Unfortunately, I'm rather dubious that any computer store is going to know whether the modems they sell satisfy my requirements: * Works well with IJPPP on FreeBSD * Works well with HylaFax (Class 2.0 support?) * Doesn't crash when you drop DTR during a failed negotiation (annoying bug with my current modem) * Passes through the second telephone line, so I can use my two-line phone (my current modem does, but one I "borrowed" from work doesn't) * Adaptive data/fax answering a plus, but not required If I can find a sufficiently reliable modem, I'd prefer an internal one (less clutter, lower price), but if I'm going to have to do silly things like power-cycle the modem to reset it, I'd obviously prefer an external one <grin>. - Tim
