There is a lot more to TCP than just TCP windows. : : Linus, your arrogance is showing here... making personal disparaging : remarks. You DO NOT need to do this. You need to reread it more carefully, John. Linus criticised your _view_ as being biased, he didn't criticise you. You were the one that started criticising the person, by accusing Linus of being arrogant. I hope you can see the difference, because it's quite critical to avoiding flame wars on the net. I think you should accept that Linux has beaten everyone fair and square on a benchmark that isn't new, and that wasn't invented to prove a Linux point. Larry McVoy invented his latency benchmarks because he thinks latency is an undervalued performance metric in several fields of computer design, including network performance. Your comments, initally completely discounting the importance of latency seem to prove his point. If you think there is some other parameter that should be given more weight, then do the same as he did: Release a portable benchmark program that tests what you think is important and start collecting figures for various OS/hardware combinations. Until you do that, your comments will just look like sour grapes. -- You couldn't deny that, even if you tried with both hands. -- The Red Queen -- Erik Corry ehcorry@inet.uni-c.dk http://inet.uni-c.dk/~ehcorry/ +45 86166287 Configuration/programmering af Internet/TCPIP/Unix/News/Mail/WWW/net-sikkerhed..
