If you : want your system to operate only on demand, you should probably use : iijppp instead. Either way, read the Handbook sections on PPP and check : the sample files in /etc/ppp. You should also try man pppd. There's : enough material here to cover most contingencies, I think. Not quite (IMO). For some time, I've had a *requirement* to auto-connect to the internet at night and exchange news & mail. This is pretty much the only interaction I have with the net. I originally tweaked the SLIP stuff to auto-connect by running a "connect" script. This script did the dialing bit and then ran "sendmail -q", "innxmit" and the like (according to a me-specific requirement). When ijppp came along, I threw it away - ijppp does just about everything - except the "well I'm connected, now what?" bit. Is it of any interest to people to be able to run "/etc/ppp/ppp.etherup" on establishing a connection ? Is it worth a #define in the ppp makefile ? If so, should I mail my patches to hackers@freebsd.org ? -- Brian <brian@awfulhak.demon.co.uk> Don't _EVER_ lose your sense of humour....
