I've got 386BSD running on our network pretty stable, so I figured I would try XFree86. Copied X from agate, and installed it w/o problems. I've got a Samsung SyncMaster 3 monitor with a no name (as far as I can tell) SVGA card (WDC WD90C30 chip w/1 meg.). Have a Microsoft mouse on com1 (how do you configure a mouse for 386BSD, couldn't find it anywhere). This is the errorr I got when I start the server up: (I tryed the mono server since I couldn't find an entry for the SVGA card) >XFree86 Version 1.1 / X Window System >(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 5000) >Configured drivers: > VGA2 (monochrome VGA): > et4000, et3000, pvga1, gvga, tvga8900, generic >VGA2: pvga1 (mem: 1024k (using 64k) numclocks: 8) >VGA2: clocks: 25 28 19 26 15 16 37 21 >Cannot open mouse: No such file or directory (This is obviously because the mouse is wrong. Could only see a "Logitech" configuration, no Microsoft in sight) >Fatal server error: >failed to initialize core devices >XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server ":0.0" > after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. > The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient. Sorry if this is obvious. This is the first time I've ever dealt with X Windows, and I feel a little lost... but I still like it better than MS Windows! ;-) -Rich --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard P.
