...and Hellmuth's pcvt even predates syscons. ;-)  Both were optional
by that time, and i seem to remember that FreeBSD 1.1 was the first
system where syscons replaced the old pccons as the _default_ driver.

Anyway, i think Hellmuth's question was merely related to The True
386BSD, which JMJr used to advocate for until its last days.  I think
it never got a VT-aware console driver, rather, i'm too lazy to check
the 386BSD 1.0 CD-ROM right now. :)
