That's funny, it's working now (see below).

Did I forget to mention that I have two IDE drives?  In this case,
'sd(0,a)/kernel' doesn't work.

What do you mean by, "the most recent versions?"

In the end, I re-installed the OS/2 boot manager (I had OS/2 on this
machine some time ago).  It can "boot" the SCSI disk, giving me the
normal FreeBSD boot prompt.  At that point, 'hd(2,a)/kernel' boots
FreeBSD successfully!

I still can't boot from a floppy.  It's as if the "boot loader" can't
see my SCSI disk when it's loaded from a floppy.  Any ideas how I can
do this.  I always like to have a backup method of booting.
