But when that task is enjoying "playing" with and learning the OS,
and in some cases to improve the OS, people consider what they've got
as being the best - until proven otherwise (especially if that individual
is a part of the design/development process).  Then, someone comes
along and makes a comment that "is clearly untrue" or "has no basis",
and people let rip...  despite the fact that they themselves make
remarks that have no "background".

A good example is the TCP latency thread - Linus vs John Dyson - it'll
go down in history.... :-(  It was a misunderstanding - both John &
Linus are not the sort of people to say things without foundation, but
hey, who's perfect.

I don't think this sort of stuff can ever be discussed without the
occasional flame.  After all, there are also people out there that
pick on these sorts of groups with the sole aim to create a flame
war :-(

This has gotta make it infinitely more difficult to make a FAQ.  But
if you can find someone willing to do it - and fairly - good luck.
